Leash taut and straining,
draining the energy from
these fatigued legs. I beg
my friend to slow the pace,
but he just wags his tail
and licks my face dragging
me a bit further up the block.

Two young boys discussing
the finer points of the
designated hitter, a bat
over the shoulder of one,
the other astride his bike.
Not a common scene today,
but a refreshing look; a throw back.

A retired gentleman stands
hands clutching yard tools,
ankle deep in mud from
the days of torrential rain.
The storm drains plug
and he’s dug the muck
that has stuck to the grate.

A young pregnant woman sits
on the bench near the bus stop.
A neat hop, skip and twenty minute ride
downtown. Another appointment
for the obstetrician to assess
her condition. She feels a kick,
and sighs wishing she didn’t feel so sick.

Sounds usually presented
as background noise
comes to the fore. Once more
the baseball chatter of boys,
the scrape of spade against metal
mesh annoys. A mother’s sigh. And a happy
dog barks at his best friend in the world.

Poetic Asides April Poem-A-Day Challenge – Day #25: “Exercise”

Mama Kin had enough of him
and tossed her rag doll like a javelin.
Living on the edge is a hedged bet,
you get what you deserve
when you fail to draw the line!
Fine! Dream on!
But no more, no more,
he’s moving out, no romance;
the same old song and dance.
No emotion is sweet when you make
a mad dash for the Kar.
What could have been love
is now a permanent vacation;
another last goodbye.
We all fall down, crazy as it sounds,
and people don’t want to miss a thing.
Pandora’s Box unleashes some scary things;
Old wedding rings, pony tails, and painted pink fingernails!
Bruce Jenner seems rather shady.
Dude looks like a lady!
***Not really news worthy, but seemed funny enough – HEADLINE: It’s All So Confusing (Bruce Jenner Still Wearing Wedding Ring (and ponytail) After Kris Jenner Split) -E! Online

Based on the songs of Aerosmith

Wafting winds stretching and winding
through outstretched branches; reaching
their fingers for suns warming rays.
On days such as these, the trees are king,
majestic and benevolent, sent to rule
over green fields and glens, knowing
seeing the forest is seeing the trees.
All of nature lowers to their knees,
a gentle genuflect to the aged wisdom growing,
never falling far from their root.
