JOURNEY OF REASONABLE CAUTION

She stands
heart full of fire.
Consumed by her soul’s desire,
for she knows steps she has taken
could be so mistaken.

She walks.
Passions inflamed.
She wants his muse to notice.
Sharing the desire to dance
if they just took the chance.

She basks
in the sun’s warmth.
She stops, feeling its embrace
like his arms over the miles.
She stands there and smiles.

She knows
passions can burn.
She wants to feel all she can,
no promise or demand, just heat;
an all-consuming love.

She sighs.
She wants this more
than anything else she knows.
He continues to grow on her,
touching every moment.

She steps,
moving closer;
feeling alive with passion,
his words entice her to want more;
lead her to their dance floor.

She feels
alive and well
desired. Fired by him
who writes love as he writes his heart,
letting the journey start.

POETIC ASIDES – Wednesday Prompt #348:”When Everything Stops”

WONDERLAND

Cause if you want love, we’ll make it
Swimming a deep sea of blankets
Take all your big plans and break ‘em
This is bound to be a while ~John Mayer – Your Body is a Wonderland

Wonderland

We fill each others gaps,
there is no lapse of passion
on this excursion of discovery.
I love the way your nose crinkles
and your eyes sprinkle me with joy
(making me one lucky boy!)
This exploration of form has me warm
and my senses tingle when fingers
intertwined with mine find their firm hold.
Your toes are cold, a sure sign that I’m
as pleasing to you as you never fail to be
to me. Our banner unfurls and your hair curls
across your forehead. I am Edison, enlightened
by your brilliance. I am Bell, calling across the
vastness of your love. I am Tesla, getting a charge
from the excitement you bring to me when you
sing to me in the throes of this love.
We have come as visionaries, searching
our horizons for our Promised Land.
And we will plant our flag and stand hand-in-hand.
We have discovered Wonderland.
This is bound to be a while!

Poetic Asides November Chapbook Challenge – Day 14 – Exploration

TRAFFIC JAM

I come to a complete halt.
Fifteen mile back-up and hours
in arrears.

Raleigh to Buffalo in eleven and a half,
that was the plan; designated and approved.
A noon departure, destined to render us home
near its midnight counterpart. My heart
wasn’t in for the drive, but I strive to follow
an itinerary that felt hollow and vacant.
Down the on-ramp to the highway,
I stay five mph above the limit making up
minutes; false victory in an age old story.
No glory on a Sunday afternoon. I swoon
as I watch the traffic thicken, and it sickens me
to see red brake lights illuminated,
making me irritated and disgusted.
I trusted my GPS to bring us home,
but I come to a complete halt.
Fifteen mile back-up and hours
in arrears. My greatest of fears
is realized. A desperate maneuver
from the center lane to find an exit.
Closer to “come from” than “near home”
we return to the accommodations to wait
for the early morning “night” to restart our flight
to the promise land and a warm familiar bed.
Can’t wait to rest my head. If I can only keep
my eyes from making me fall asleep.
A change of plans; not in my hands.
