CHANGE OF LIFE(STYLE)

I’ve swapped the bottle for a life
more prone to lifting than falling.
It was my calling to change my style,
be less a bear and share love.
And while I smile more, I’m taking
life more seriously. I wrap
myself in the comfort of family
which comes as quite the bargain.
In the end, I live longer knowing
that my weaknesses are showing.
But that’s OK. It just means I’m growing.

HOPE AND CHANGE

Making a change for change sake,
is akin to spitting into the wind.
Intentions, mask your futility
of where your fire should be directed.
In retrospect, nothing really
does transform. It is only manipulated.
It is cajoled; a good front is placed
in front of the vile vision that sets you seething.
Thoughts become all- controlling; left to
simmer and boil over again in time.
Turning a jaundiced eye to the truth.
You hope for better, but don’t hold your breath!

Poetic Asides November Chapbook Challenge – Day 8: Change/Never Change

MY VOICES

I hear them.
They speak to me.
Whispering and
dispersing fragments
of thoughts and ideas,
inspirations for my
word masturbation.One
after another after another after…
Write them quick before
the image fades. These days
my poles are opposite
flipping from frantic
to manic, it gets depressing.
I’m guessing this monster
will devour my muse in time.
But as long as I’m breathing,
I’ll be leaving a little something
behind. My poetic manifesto;
my monster will never die!
And it has changed me.
