I THINK I KNEW

Remember how it all started
Until the day you departed
Leaving me quite broken hearted?

It is as if you always knew,
That I would not be right for you.
In my heart I knew it was true.
You had me truly outsmarted.

I guess you’d think I would have seen
The highs, the lows, and in between.
That you could really be so mean
On the day you up and darted.

But, out of bad things comes some good,
I think I knew it always would.
And I’d get lucky (knock on wood)
So on my heart she had charted.

In with the new, out with the old
(the one that left me in the cold)
I found one with a heart of gold)
and so, I was in wholehearted.

Now, we’re together to this day.
It was a blessing, in a way,
I had this fear she would not stay,
And that I would be bogarted.

Love finds a way in it’s own time
So I could capture it in rhyme,
Writing the words that say that I’m
Happy that I had restarted.
