She beckons,
a seductress in a soft salty hush.
You rush to her embrace,
her spray on your face
and the glint of sunlight
slightly blinding you, yet reminding
you of her allure. You come
to her shore to adore and
worship, cast under her spell
and the swell of tides will not hide
her passion. Waves crashing
and her undertow grips you.
She slips you into her hand
and the sand softens your landing.
You are standing in her wake
and make no mistake,
she controls your soul.

A wonderfully soulful song to the ocean, She is a mystery.
And we’re best to let her remain so, Paul. The pulse of wave and the depth of her is as much of soul.
Indeed.
A gorgeous metaphor, Walter: the sea as a salty seductress.I love the lines:
‘Waves crashing
and her undertow grips you.
She slips you into her hand
and the sand softens your landing’.
Thanks, Kim. Even in her tumult, she is a gentle mistress; we crave her caress.
We all have that water of the oceans in common… the soul of our blue planet. Love it.
It certainly touches us all, Björn ! Without soul, we may as well be heartless as well.
I gaze at the sea, and see my soul, crash to shore. Beautiful.
She is truly a beauty, Annell! Thanks for that!
I love the watery flow of this, particularly these lines:
“She slips you into her hand and the sand softens your landing. You are standing in her wake…”
The power of Woman.
I never underestimate that power, Gospel! Thank you.
My goodness, Walter. This is mighty hot. Especially this:
“You rush to her embrace,
her spray on your face”
I can’t imagine a more violent, controlling, or delicious lover than the sea.
If there’s one out there, Hudson, I haven’t experienced it yet!
I live in land-locked W PA but this had me longing for the sea
If it brought you there, then I’ve done my job, Candy! 😉 Thanks for always reading!
Nice sound and nice last three lines.
I appreciate that, Frank!
Called by his mistress to the surging throb of the currents, beautiful!
The ocean is a seduction for sure, Walter. You make it sound even more steamy! Nice.
Oh my goodness 😦
She is a powerful seductress in a soft salty hush. Good one Walter !
Thank you, Grace!
She has certainly ruled mine, since I was young. Beautiful, Walt.
Glad she’s had her influence on you, Sherry! Thank you.
From an old girl whose family landed on the NC coast generations ago, I love this. Once the saltwater seems into your being, she will hold your soul forever.
That is for sure, Toni. Thank you for comments.
A lovely ode to the ocean.
Nice of you to say! Thank you.
Very nice – reminds me of the Robert Frost poem – Neither Out Far, nor in Deep – the seductiveness of the sea.
Frost has been an inspiration of mine. Glad I could draw that comparison, Peter. I appreciate that.
Wonderful… the call of the sea is as insistant as any lover.
It surely is, Sue. It will stir your soul and arouse you!
It always does, Walter.
Truly, the sea also has a soul. This is splendid, Walt.
I appreciate your constant support and our mutual admiration society we’ve been brought to. Thank you for all of it, Marilyn!
The allure of the ocean, like the adulterous woman, has no respect of persons. Great poem.
True Mary. She will seduce you and leave you in her wake. Thanks.
So true! The allure of the sea never leaves those that have experienced it!

Love the ocean… it has a soul of its own…definitely in control of all who come into her!

This poem makes me want to get out on my board without my wetsuit!
Cheers,
Mark
I love, ‘seductress of salty hush’. Beautiful writing, Walt!
