The Black Lagoon produced the Creature,
often seen in double-features
with the bolt-necked Frankendude,
as manners go, both rather rude.
Lamont Cranston cast his Shadow,
without light, as far as I know.
Who knows in which men’s hearts evil lurks?
I hope this gumshoe catches these jerks.
Now, consider the films of old Lon Chaney,
black and white, and rather grainy.
The many faces Chaney’d wear
would give his fans a frightful scare.
Clap for the Wolf-man,
he’s no vegetarian,
The more he got hairy,
the more he got scary.
Mummy, mummy,
you’re no dummy.
Quite Egyptian from the womb,
Fright Egyptian from your tomb.
They shot Freddie Kruger
with a German Luger.
But that attempt will always fail,
just get that creep to cut his nails.
And that Voorhees kid called Jason,
he was always out there chasin’
hot and horny, hormonal teenies
to chop them into smithereenies.
WTF, Michael Myers?
(Not SNL Michael Myers)
The latter made a ton of money,
what the former did was not so funny.

Fun collection, Walt. You really took off with this prompt.
This prompt took me juicing and screaming, Victoria! Thanks for your endorsement!
I love this expo through the world of horror movies, you made the splatter and blood seem like fun… great work
Thanks Bjorn! I always had an affinity for the old monster movies. it was fun to lampoon them all!
Oh my gosh, I love these, Walter! I remember all those scary dudes. You out did yourself Mr. Wojtanik!
Those “scary dudes” were more left to our imaginations, Gayle. The “special effects” didn’t cloud our fears because they seemed more real! It made them scarier! Thanks for this.
How right you are, Walter…not much special effects going on back then. You’re so welcome and I’m very happy that you enjoyed the prompt.
Oh soooooo well done! And now, even the Shadow know how talented you are at wordsmithing! 🙂
I guess my “wordsmithing” has come out of the shadows, eh Lillian? Thanks for your encouragement!
Hilarious! I hate horror movies so I appreciate you lambasting them here.
I like to laugh at what I fear. It makes it less of a problem, Linda! Thanks.
Well, Walt, armful of kudos for knocking out 8 of these; I stopped at four. I once did some movie reviews for a Horror Blog ( like 70 of them ), so your delicious bits really resonate with me!
Thanks Glenn!
That’s quite prolific. I am beginning to get an idea of what this form can do from your examples.
Any from can lend much to our expressions, Frank. This one allows us to say much in a few lines. I enjoy the challenge of form poetry! Thanks for reading!
Very funny stuff.
I appreciate that, Brian!
These are all great…so funny! I love the horror genre and you did a wonderful job on bringing those shows back to life. The Jason one…hahaha! 🙂
😀 Glad you enjoyed the spoof of these. I love the old school horror the best!
all the classics spoofed here Walt! A great scae!
Oy! A great scare!
I knew what you meant, Candy! Thanks for stopping by!
This was great! Thanks for the laugh
If I made one person laugh, then I was effective! I guess this one accomplished much, Truedessa!
Nice selection of spooky characters must mean you are already in the Halloween mood.
Well done; I especially like the one about Lon Chaney….have steered away from the other movies as they give me the jitters or worse!
Chaney was amazing in that he portrayed so many different characters, each with they individual traits. He was a master. Cagney portrayed him in a film, “Man of a Thousand Faces”. It tells of his struggles and rise to the top of the genre. Thanks for commenting, Kathy!
Geez! you make the scary feel funny with your lovely Clerihews. ❤
Thank you, Rose!
Wow, you rocked the prompt, sir. Lots of creepy clerihews!
Thank for that, Mish! I do creepy well, I guess! 😀
You went to town Walter with all the scary scenes. It seemed to be giving nice feelings with your treatment. Had to google some of them though. Great offering!
Hank
I guess my age is showing, eh Hank? I watched many a late night movie as a kid. these were my “friends”!
Chuckle! I love this scary slew of clerihews, Walt, and thanks for bringing Halloween forward by a month or so!
You’re welcome, Kim! And thank you!
Ohhhh, you clever man. These are perfect.
Thanks you De-lightful friend! I does what I can!
Mummy is my favorite, followed closely by Frankendude and Wolf-man. 😀
They all had their charm, Crystal! Thanks.
My goodness — you have the knack!
What a bushel of great Clerihews!
I usually shovel by the bushelful, LL. Thanks for reading them!
The pleasure is mine!!!
“smithereenies” is my new favourite word. Fabulous clerihews!
Thanks Bryan! I tend to make them up when I need to! Felt a bit Seussian at that moment!
“Mummy” is my favorite. These are all sooo funny, Walt!
Thanks Pard 2!
Just so fantastic–funny and clever and what a good memory you have!
Thanks Nan! These indeed did stay with me!
