OLDEN SLUMBERS

No one will be more surprised than I
if life turns to give me just what I want.
I’ve given up on wishing to
become famous before I die.
Even in closer circles, I am in
absolutely no hurry to face my
Maker; I’ll continue to take my own
sweet time before eternal sleep offers a bed.

  1. I read the end lines first and then the poem in its entirety. Yes and yes! I don’t know about dying in my own bed unless I die in my sleep. Having sat beside too many deathbeds in hospice, it isn’t always a comfortable proposition. But I like the thoughts of death being made easy an calm. I’m all in for that.

Kicked some poetic butt here, Walt. We are spiritual brothers it seems. No rush to the doorway to beyond the veil here either. As to fame–it’s probably overrated. Thanks to the internet & international groups like dVerse, my writing & photography gives me more than ample audience & feedback .

  3. I’ll continue to take my own
sweet time before eternal sleep offers a bed.

One does his own thing at his own pace. Nothing to goad us on or stifle one’s passage in life.It has worked well that no one needs to be pressured. Nice lines Walt!
