I would love you forever if
you even loved me a little,
I would hold your heart by
holding you a little.
To complete me totally, you
would need to trust your heart and stop
pretending you have these loving
feelings and just love me.

There is no one who could care for you like I
care for you; I always shall
care. If I would ever stop
giving you all my loving
I would have dis-served you.
I would not deserve you, even a little.
I would love you much more by
loving you more than a little.

  1. Interesting how you’ve turned the meaning of the original lines on their head and instead of giving in to the “little by little” wearing away of love, you resolved to love nonetheless.

  2. Nice, a much more optimistic expression of love than the original line. But I suspect the reality for most of us would be closer to Neruda’s words.

  3. Sweet!! I love your choice of Neruda — and especially love what you did with the first two lines: ‘I would love you forever if you even loved me a little’. Nice!
