“Everybody has a price” we’ve heard tell
and “There’ll be hell to pay” if we fail to deliver.
But, we “hang on a sliver of hope”
that we “get off Scott free”.
There is folly in that thinking,
and I have this sinking feeling
we end up paying in the long run.
Not much fun when the check comes.
Our pursuits are simple: eat, read, pray,
say a good word, be heard
write a poem or two and you
will “get your money’s worth.
Where else on earth can you find
such a bargain for your heart and mind.
All it “costs” is a little time
and a heart full of rhyme.
In an economy of words,
“the price is right!”
