DESTINATION UNKNOWN

Look how we’ve grown.
Steps once unsure
now assure progress.
There is no regress to mess
with your hopes and dreams.
It just seems to be the way
we’ve always gone. Before long
we move by rote and emote
these feelings of purpose;
this bat out of hell in a hand basket.
The task is simple: succeed by all means
even if it means changing course.
In the end, it’s all justified
wherever your parachute lands.

  1. True, true, gracefully, gratefully, and yet with something lost by the wayside with “rote and emote.” I remember the book “What color is your parachute” which helped launch careers. And also, of course, “Simple Gifts”: “To turn, turn will be our delight / Till by turning, turning we come ’round right.” Yes.

    I love ‘this bat out of hell in a hand basket’ and ‘wherever your parachute lands’ – the fun within the seriousness.

  3. Yes, life has a plan all of its own and the parachute will land where its meant to not necessarily where you want it to. Love the analogy.
