POETRY: BACK IN TIME

I’ve lived without my words – a mime
keeping each one all to myself
like lost thoughts sitting on the shelf.

In the ways of my prose and rhyme
I have arrived to hit my stride
expressing all these thoughts inside.

For I found that in all that time
my words were squandered and wasted,
their sweetness was never tasted.

It was a felonious crime
punishment: echoing silence,
to a man of words it’s violence.

Since early man stepped out of slime,
he wanted to communicate
but sounds that rhymed still had to wait.

He was fascinated with rhyme,
and now he writes them twice as fast,
evoking emotions at last,

a poet ahead of his time!
A trendsetter in thoughts and words;
writing the sweetest rhymes you’ve heard!

SINATRA SINGS

OnlyLonely

In a melancholy mood, Sinatra soothes.
His dulcet tones come smooth and hypnotic.
One of life’s salient truths,
In a melancholy mood, Sinatra soothes.
Sitting in my listening booth,
Frank’s “magic” is quixotic.
In a melancholy mood, Sinatra soothes.
His dulcet tones come smooth and hypnotic.

LIVING DREAMS DECOMPOSED (IN CASCADE)

Without his dreams, a man will die,
falling short of his desires.
Some will not notice; some might cry
as he’s laid beneath the briars.

Having goals and aims gives one direction;
the focus for your life to provide
all that your life needs to succeed.
Without his dreams, a man will die,

and surely, it’s a struggle,
for life is not a piece of cake.
A man who would forsake his dreams will be
falling short of his desires.

The process becomes a slow dance to success.
Try and fail only to rise and try again.
People will see you for who you are:
some will not notice; some might cry

to know they had given up on the same dream.
It seems he wishes to rise above like rich cream,
and surely, once committed, will reach higher
as he’s laid beneath the briars.

LIVING DREAMS

Without his dreams, a man will die,
falling short of his desires.
Some will not notice; some might cry
as he’s laid beneath the briars.

We make our mark by how we live,
without his dreams, a man will die,
and we get more from what we give
but there are some that just don’t try

to make an effort; be that guy.
Compassion lives within each heart,
without his dreams, a man will die.
Love is the proper place to start,

a seed once planted, blooms and grows.
So give your dreams a chance to fly,
the wisest man will learn and know
without his dreams a man will die!

For MIZ QUICKLY’S IMPROMPTU POETRY Day 23 – Repeating After Me (Quatern)

NO HEART, NO FOUL

You gotta want it,
You gotta mean it.
But if your heart’s not in it,
you’ll never win mine. Fine,
gloat in your self-loathing,
be obsessed in your mess.
But don’t think you can hurt me
if your heart’s not invested.
I guess I’ll just laugh and walk away.

DAUGHTERS

“So fathers, be good to your daughters
Daughters will love like you do…” ~John Mayer

Blessed with beautiful blooms,
flowers that have graced my vase
from the day we first met, and yet
there is so much more beauty to bare
and time is a fleeting companion.
Two of you have grown without really knowing
you’ve helped me to grow in my heart.
And times I have known that it didn’t quite show,
I hope you two know that I have from the start.
Eight years divided and it was hard to hide it
the fact that the gap has been spackled and closed
and now you both share the love that you bear
in your hopes and your dreams
(and sometimes in each others clothes).
You have melted my heart, shaped and reformed it,
raised in the love that your mom and I gave;
no greater love than the love you both have,
and in our close circle, we all have been saved.
Daughters are certainly love!
