Lyrics by Walter J. Wojtanik
“Enough is enough”, I heard you say,
and I was a wreck when you went away.
I wish it were easy,
I wish it were true,
You went to my heart,
I had nothing to prove.
But you had different interests,
and I’ll say it again, I wish it weren’t true.
“I think you’re sweet”‘ I heard you say,
that’s when I figured that you would stay.
But where did you go?
You made such a fuss
I wish it weren’t true
that we would be a bust.
We had different reasons,
and after it’s said, I wish it weren’t true.
You sold me your lines
and I bought all your goods,
your sad angel’s disguise
had me thinking I should,
But here at the end we’re not even friends
I’ve had it with you! (I wish it were true.)
“There’s never enough”, I heard somebody say,
that’s what I thought when I asked you to stay.
I wish it were easy,
I wish it were you.
You had nothing to prove;
I wish it were true.
And as you cut my heart out
you just left me to shout, “I wish it weren’t true!”.

Written for THE SUNDAY WHIRL – Wordle #94
Hi Walt, I just got to the end of the Mr Linky links and there you were right at the begining. 🙂 Love your take on the words. Read like a country and western song and then I saw you tagged it with lyrics, music. Bet it would sound great. Do you write music?
Yes Veronica. Since I was 13 (a long time ago) 😉 I have other lyrics in the Composer Corner tab in the left hand margin. And hear some early drafts of some of them recorded here:

Life… my friend.
Well worth the living, my friend! Thanks.
Yesterday we prepared for big superbowl party,. so I am reading the wordles today. Liked the rhythm in your poem. It read like the lyrics to a song.
They will be Marian. I’m a bit behind on my melodies! But thanks for noticing!
Sad angel disguise is such a telling line..I would imagine most angels are sturdier than they appear..
Sometimes angels play both parts. Thanks for stopping by Jae.
Hey, Walt. What a lovely song. I’d like to hear it put to music. The wordle words were good this week, weren’t they? “Sad angel disguise” phrase is the most poetic and revelatory. I’m sure glad you “found” it.
Thanks Cheryl. Been writing music for a long time; my melodic poetry. I’m falling behind on those melodies, though!
This is excellent, Sir. Quite the composed composer you are – of words AND song.
Thanks De. I need to return to my roots and give that a big push again. Coming from you, that’s a high compliment.
Alovely and thoughtful song!
Thanks, Tumblewords.
This sounds very country, Walt. I think you did a good job with those pesky words, they fit well into this piece.
Pamela
You’re too kind, Pamela. Once I decided I “heard” a song in these words, they sort of fell into place on their own.
And when are you going to put music to this song? 🙂
When I get the phrasing down that I want. I play by ear; I can not read or write music. I can just play. So I’m recording everything to “perfect” it, and saving the resulting “good one”. Still work on “Angels Cried at Christmas” written after the Sandy Hook shootings.
It’s a process, that’s my defense.
I’m sticking to it.
