It’s been a rough road,
but I’ve been told that’s how the ball bounces.
Every ounce of life is a strange frenzy,
and in the end we settle our wayward hearts
and start falling in love all over again.
The results are sublime; a robust chance
to channel life in a dedicated “heart attack”.

Yes! That’s what happens: “… an old Love becomes New…” !
…and the wheel goes around, Henrietta! Thanks as always.
we settle our wayward hearts… yes, I think as we age we become more aware of what’s really important in life. I really enjoyed this, Walt.
Thanks Laurie. Lesson learned through much tribulation brings the cream of life to the surface!
I did, too [enjoy this]. We never quite settle [being older, I speak from knowledge
], but we do settle phases before being unsettled by something new. You describe the cycle well.
Margo, always appreciated and welcomed!
You’ve used the word dedicated to interesting effect. It’s a defined word, an intentional, restrained concept: I’m dedicated to you. Yet this heart attack is uncontrolled and sublime. Your useage speaks of great turmoil and decision, of great angst and regret, of desperation. Thank you.
Thank YOU!
Ah. Our fickle and foolish hearts always come home to roost.
Fickle and foolish hearts are noisy little cluckers, aren’t they Marilyn?
How sweet this “heart attack”. I’ve just watched Midnight in Paris and the heart is fairly ridiculous.
Oops I meant the other movie, Vicky Christina Barcelona.
Either one will put a smile on my face. Love Woody Allen! Thanks Irene.
I think you describe life well. Those stages, changes, and then the renewal. Especially like your title and that closing line.

We all observe life and describe it as we see fit, Elizabeth. Bare the heart and let all heck break out! Thanks.
Perfect…yes! Love this…’and in the end we settle our wayward hearts
and start falling in love all over again.’
Easier said than done but worth it!
Worth it indeed! If at first we don’t succeed…Thanks JRM!
Your title did not prepare me for the ending of this poem. I was prepared for death and ended with delight!
Whirling with Richard Wright
Mr. Wright, you were so wrong!
Thanks Richard. I like twisting my muse toward the unexpected!
Thanks for giving your poetic partner said heart attack upon reading the title in her e-mail inbox.
Marie, rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated (for dramatic effect). Besides, you know I’d let you in on my passing before I told anyone else!
Oh yeah? Pfshhh … I’ll just go FIRST so I can haunt YOU, buster! And don’t think I won’t!
yes, need to be working on this ‘dedicated heart attack’ instead of the one I am working towards. Very good, enjoyed immensely.
Smell the roses, coffee, and whatever else steers you from your heart attack and towards mine! A lesson learned the hard way, but worth the study! Thanks Mark.
I smiled to myself reading your poem and sighed at the too true wisdom there. Great use of the wordle prompt. Interesting poem.
Carol, a pleasure and a humbling comment for sure. Glad the smile was apparent and the wisdom came through. I appreciate your thoughts!
I like that a ‘dedicated heart attack’. Kind of reminds me of the humor of my home. The those jabs and stabs that tickle and send us into peals of laughter. Those special inside jokes that turn us inside out…I see there you have that with someone up there…. Made me smile. My hubby says in our marriage that worrying about troubles is 50/50 and I get the first 50 years. I don’t think so. But then this also comes from the same man who proposed to me on a Friday the 13th! So then any luck on such a day has to be good – right. Hey we are still together after 30 odd years…’odd’ being the operative word!

Great connection, Jules. Those stories are from which this poem is made! Thank you.
I like your gentle rhyme throughout.
Thanks FR. Internal rhyme is my weakness!
Glad the heart attack ended up being of the love type Walt … you’re due some good times, I’d say … good one
Thanks Sharon. Looking for a turn of fortune for sure!
